Keeping Children Safe proudly welcomes Console Mission into its global network. Established in Nepal in 2010, Console Mission has been a stalwart community-based organisation, particularly active in education, public health and sustainable development.
Also known as Dilasa Abhiyan, it has been a beacon of hope since its founding. Their projects on literacy and sustainable education for children, including after-school classes, exemplify their dedication to nurturing the academic growth of children. They firmly believe that all children, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or socio-economic background, have the right to grow up in safety.
A standout initiative by Console Mission is “Our Study Place” (OSP), a project that creates a dedicated learning environment for school-going children. The project not only addresses educational gaps but also contributes to the holistic development of children. By organising this safe space, they aim to dissuade practices that hinder children’s education, such as forced marriages.
Why join our network?
Console Mission recognised the need for child safeguarding measures in their OSP project. The pandemic-induced gap revealed areas for improvement, particularly in training volunteers and outsiders interacting with children. The key driver for them to join the Keeping Children Safe network is to reduce the vulnerability of children within the educational context. Their goal is to ensure that the needs and holistic development of these children are safeguarded, creating an environment free from mistreatment.
Looking ahead, Console Mission envisions the implementation of a written policy and relevant documents, coupled with comprehensive training on child safeguarding for their associates, management team and volunteers. This proactive approach underscores their commitment to the safety and well-being of every child they serve.
Emphasising the essential role of quality education in building a better society, they underscore the importance of empowering children, particularly girls, to continue their schooling. In a country like Nepal, where education is pivotal for progress, Console Mission strives to combat illiteracy and school dropouts.
As Console Mission looks to the future, their vision extends beyond education, encompassing life skills, sexual and reproductive health and the rights of the children they serve. Together, we embark on a journey to create a more educated, empowered and safer world for every child.
