Keeping Children Safe welcomes new Africa Programme Manager

Oumar Diallo joined Keeping Children Safe to lead our new Programme, focused on Africa. He has over a decade of leadership experience, a proven ability to lead diverse teams and a deep understanding of his region.

In this interview, we look into Oumar’s professional experiences and what motivated him to join Keeping Children Safe.

What inspired you to join Keeping Children Safe?
KCS is an international NGO committed to zero tolerance of violence, exploitation, discrimination, abuse and neglect toward children and vulnerable people. This mission made me want to join the team. I hope to contribute in making sure that children in Africa and everywhere are better protected from harm.

What are the main fields or topics you wish to work on as KCS’ Africa Programme Manager?
I will be working alongside an Africa-based safeguarding adviser to provide technical support to organisations, especially universities. Our goal will be to help them develop or strengthen their safeguarding frameworks. We will work together to make sure all students are protected from harm.

What skills or vision do you hope to contribute to the team?
I have over 15 years of senior leadership experience in both development and emergency response settings with international organisations. My leadership style is characterised by a strategic mindset, a commitment to excellence, and a focus on fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Why is child safeguarding important to you?
I have worked under challenging circumstances and have seen first-hand the need for international non-governmental organisations to have a comprehensive and clear safeguarding policy, as well as a code of conduct that guides staff and volunteers, so they do no harm to the people they serve – especially the most vulnerable.
